Now that the dust has settled...
Thanks to everyone who supported and volunteered to help with the LHM! We got a lot of positive feedback and there should be an even bigger crowd next year.

Next on the agenda…
Mason Wiest has agreed to help organize our next club event. The ACCC Club Championship will be held over the course of several weeks. Details will be posted on our website soon. http://aikenchess.org/

Upcoming Travel Events…

Second is the Greenville Open at the end of June. We should have several players going to this event so check the website to coordinate transportation and hotels.

Third is the World Open in Philadelphia during the 4th of July. We have a few players that plan on going up to this one. If anyone would be interested in playing a really big event, this one has always been fun.

The Lee Hyder Memorial is now over and was a great success!!  I want to thank everyone who attended and we welcome you back for next years event.  A special thanks to all the "masters" who attended and congratulations to Klaus Pohl for a perfect 4-0 score for solo first.  Hopefully this will become an annual event.  I want to thank all the club members for their participation and support, without you we would not have been successful.  We also noticed a great showing of support from Columbia S.C. and Aiken Chess Club plans to support them with their tournaments as well.  Another thanks goes out to our South Carolina Chess Association President, David Grimaud for his many hours of support and promotion of this event and also for loaning us the DGT board so we could broadcast the games live over the internet.  We were also able to link the games to the lobby TV for real time viewing.  Several of our top members regretted that they could not attend because of prior commitments but plan to be there for next years event i.e. Charles Reeve (2042) and Dan Quigley (1878).  One of our younger scholastic members, Tori Whatley, was unable to attend because she was busy with a Susan Pulgar sponsored event in Dallas, Texas.  Check out the new link on Tori:  http://www.edgefielddaily.com/merriwether050108.html .
