Our club is nationally affiliated with the
United States Chess Federation (USCF).
Most members of the chess club eventually join the USCF in order to
play in exciting, rated tournaments offered all over the country. Our
younger members have the opportunity to participate in scholastic
tournaments, and the most talented of them quickly rise to challenging
adults and other gifted juniors in regular tournaments. Many club
members carpool to tournaments for the camaraderie of traveling
together. Most popular are the South Carolina tournaments offered
throughout the year, which are announced at
South Carolina Chess Association's
website. Also popular, particularly with our members
from Augusta, are the many Atlanta area tournaments offered throughout
the year. The level of competition at these is particularly strong,
often including International Masters. The newly formed Aiken County
Chess Club is planning on having several small tournaments a year in the
local area, and one larger one,
tentatively scheduled for the end of April. Membership in the USCF is required
in order to play in all of these tournaments.
USCF membership includes
many benefits, such as an individual national ranking (called a rating),
discounts on chess-related materials (such as boards, pieces, clocks,
books, and software), and a subscription to their award winning monthly
magazine, Chess Life. You can sign up for USCF membership in person
through our club, or directly through USCF's website.
